I’m excited to be able to go to Las Vegas for CES 2024 for the third time to cover the show in person. There are a few paid jobs I need to do while I’m gone, so I won’t be able to write a bunch of posts about everything that happened at the show. But I will put together a list of the coolest things I see and tell you what it’s like to cover the biggest tech show in the world. I’ll need the most important tech in my bag to do all of these things. Amazingly, the things I need are a few. It’s amazing how much you can do with just a few pieces of tech.

At the top of my daily carry list, it’s the first thing I put in my bag whenever I go on a trip.

My Main Phone is an iPhone 15 Pro

The smaller size was the main reason I chose the iPhone 15 Pro over the iPhone 14 Pro Max when I updated. It was very clear to me while I was walking around the CES 2023 show floor that I missed having a phone that I could safely use with one hand. I got the smaller size because I planned to go back to the show this year, and I’m glad I did. On the one hand, I can send calls, emails, and Instagram posts while I walk around the show floor. Another reason I’m happy to use this every day is that it’s one of my favorite smartphones ever.

An Apple Watch that Can Track Exercise and Send Messages

My iPhone is paired with an Apple Watch Series 8. I’ll be using it at CES to check for messages and keep track of how far I walk. It would have been nice to bring my Withings ScanWatch instead for some extra bling, but I can’t give up the usefulness of the Apple Watch while I’m covering the show. It will look even more dressy because I’m going to wear one of Nomad’s flashy Titanium Bands with it.

A Google Pixel Fold is my Second Phone

I bring a second phone to CES every year in case my main phone dies. This year, it’s the Pixel Fold. It would have been great to have a folding phone on hand to check my calendar, handle meeting calls, and look at the CES map on a big screen. This year, I’m going to give it a try. Also, I won’t need to bring my iPad with me because the Pixel Fold already works like a computer.

The Sony ZV-E10 with an SD card and a carry handle

The ZV-E10, a very simple video camera from Sony, is the one I use. If I want to improve the pictures before posting them on social media, I can do so in Lightroom. The video quality is good enough that I trust it to record all the videos I need at the show. It’s just easier to carry around something small and useful instead of a full-sized DSLR. Sony’s portable grip/tripod that works with the camera is also with me, along with one SD card (to feel something, you know?).

Headphones to Get Through the Flight

Every trip, no matter how long, is complete with good headphones that block out noise. Bring your second-generation AirPods with you on this trip. I’ll use them for about an hour or until the engine noise gets old. I’ll then switch to my Sony WH-1000XM4s. I was going to bring my XM5s, but the XM4s case is smaller and fits better in my hip bag.

An easy-to-carry charger

It would be stupid of you not to bring a portable charger to CES. I’m going to carry around a big 26,000mAh Anker charger to keep everything charged. I wish it wasn’t so heavy, though, because it feels weird in my bag whenever I carry it.

A Lot of Cables

I always need more than I do, and they’re small enough to fit in almost any pocket. Some multi-port wall adapters, chargers for my Apple Watch and MacBook, and a Lightning wire to charge my AirPods are in my bag. I’m not going to buy the $100 USB-C case. I’ll give my bag one last look before I leave to make sure I don’t need anything else, but other than that, I’m good with what’s in it.
